Ripple is a mobile app that lets citizen-science volunteers monitor lake water quality in the field. Using a handheld sensor and their phone, volunteers record GPS-tagged readings with photos in under three minutes, and conservation groups get automatic alerts when a reading suggests a real problem like contamination or an algae bloom.
